‘Chronicle 2′ Currently In the Making; Max Landis Returns as Writer

This year, Chronicle, a found footage film stretching the boundaries of the superhero genre, hit the big screen and made quite an impression. Produced on a budget of only $12 million, Chronicle joined the list of one of the most lucrative found footage films of the past five years along side Paranormal Activity. To date, the film’s managed to rake in a total of $111.7 million worldwide. According to Box Office Mojo, Chronicle holds the title for the 6th highest grossing found-footage film of all time — that’s behind The Blair Witch Project, all three Paranormal Activity films and Cloverfield.

With those numbers it would seem ludicrous if Fox didn’t take advantage of such a money crop. No word as of yet if director Josh Trank will return. There’s also been no word of his other rumored project, a spin-off for Venom. Either way, depending on the timing, if he’s offered both, he should take them, but if one conflicts with the other, then he should go for the Venom spin-off. I thoroughly enjoyed his work in Chronicle, but it’d nice to see what another director has in store for the sequel.

According to Deadline, Chronicle screenwriter Max Landis has been hired to write the script for the sequel. If you saw the film, you’d know that the guy wrote a pretty damn good script that had audiences laughing and tearing up a bit… at least I did. It’ll be interesting to see how he picks up the pieces from what’s left. I won’t spoil Chronicle for anyone, so no more on that front. If you’ve seen it, you know what I mean.

On the whole, Chronicle 2 is a brilliant idea and Fox seems to think so as well. The company believes that the numbers will only increase when the second film hits theaters. It’ll of course depend on the general response from those who wanted to wait to see it in theaters. If all goes well, then those numbers will rise. I’ll be in line for Chronicle 2… will you?
