Angelina Jolie Says the Evil ‘Maleficent’ Will Be Her Next Film

“It’s incredible! Sixteen years and not a trace of her! She couldn’t have vanished into thin air.” – Maleficent.

Well, Maleficent, you don’t have to wait around any longer! After a year of rumors and unconfirmed dates, Angelina Jolie has finally announced that Maleficent will be her next big film.

“I haven’t acted in two years, and I haven’t done anything else since this [Land of Blood and Honey]. The next thing I am looking at is a Disney movie.”

While Jolie didn’t say that the next film would be Maleficent, it was certainly implied. It was announced several months back that Jolie was attached to the film with Tim Burton set to direct. Last thing we heard, Tim Burton decided not to helm the film, and the job went to Robert Stromberg, known for his design concepts for James Cameron’s Avatar, Tim Burton’s Alice in the Wonderland and Sam Raimi’s upcoming film, Oz the Great and Powerful.

Jolie has also had her eye on a film directed by Luc Besson which was set to start production in April, but insiders revealed that the project is no longer apart of Jolie’s roster. In an interview with THR, she said Maleficent could start pre-production at the end of this year or beginning of next. If Maleficent is indeed Jolie’s next move, she’ll have to hold off on two other projects — Gertrude Bell and David Fincher’s Cleopatra.

Linda Woolverton wrote the Maleficent script and apparently Jolie loves the script. She revealed to THR that her daughters have been begging her to play a Disney character:

“The best thing to find that balance is to do something that is just for children,” Jolie said Saturday. “You know, you find different ways to make things matter. When, for example, you do fun action movies, they are empowering for my daughters.”
