Sorry for the Wayne’s World quote, it’s been on HBO non-stop for the last month and I can’t stop watching it. But the phrase “psycho hose beast” not only describes Wayne Campbell’s crazy ex, but it describes Sean Young and her latest antics. With her film pedigree you’d think Sean Young would be on a list of cool actresses. She was in Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner and one of my favorite comedies Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. Unfortunately the fact that she’s crazy pants keeps getting in the way of her success.
The first evidence of her slowly slipping mind is that one time she showed up on The Joan Rivers Show dressed up as Catwoman. She did it as a public plea/publicity stunt to get Tim Burton to consider her for the role in his upcoming Batman Returns. The role went to Michelle Pfeiffer (who did a great job in my opinion). This was one of her first head-scratching moments, one that didn’t affect her career too badly. But unfortunately that behavior has continued.
In 2006 she tried to crash the Vanity Fair Oscar party with no success. That same year she was escorted out of the Director’s Guild Awards for heckling someone during their acceptance speech. After all the publicity about her being cray-cray, she made the celebrity plea for forgiveness known as rehab. According to her agent in a statement released she ”has struggled against the disease [alcoholism] for many years.” I think it’s a little bit more than just alcohol at this point.
Her most recent transgression happened last night at the Governor’s Ball. Uninvited to the Oscar’s or the Ball, Sean Young could be seen outside both events taking pictures with everyone for her Facebook page. According to her, she wasn’t bothering anyone and simply “waiting for friends.” According to security, after she was asked to leave she slapped a guard. She was put under citizen’s arrest and taken to a local station to be charged with battery and released on $20,000 bail.
I imagine the fight looked something like this…
Her argument that she wasn’t causing any trouble doesn’t really seem to hold up very well when you consider her history. And even if security was wrong to throw her out for acting like a papparazzi hound, she definitetly shouldn’t have slapped some guy for doing his job. Young is now saying that the Academy should make a public apology for their security guard and his “atrocious behavior”, but she doesn’t seem to want to say she’s sorry for smacking the guy.
My hope is that this and other examples will rule her out for having any sort of part in Ridley Scott’s planned Blade Runner sequel. Or any other movie that doesn’t require her to be in a straight jacket. I imagine that she will not be happy to simply drop out of the public eye, I mean who will look at all those great Facebook photos she took? As long as she doesn’t start spilling crazy all over Ridley Scott so that he can make his awesome movie in peace, I don’t really care what the heck she does.
What do you guys think? Is Sean Young the victim here or are you feeling bad for the unnamed security guard?
