Hugh Jackman In Talks for Hooper’s ‘Les Miserables’!

Can today get any better? First we learn that Russell Crowe is in negotiations to play Jor-El in Zack Snyder’s Superman: Man of Steel. Then Variety reports that Hugh Jackman is currently in talks to play one of the lead characters in Tom Hooper’s film adaptation of the popular book turned immensly successful Broadway musical, Les Miserables aka Les Miz.

If you don’t follow musical theater, you should know this is not Hugh Jackman’s first time dealing with musicals. He’s proved himself to be a true “triple threat” when he charmed audiences world wide in his star role in the musical The Boy from Oz. He’s hosted the Tony Awards not once, not twice, but three times. However, this will be the first time we’ll get to see our Wolverine singing his ass off on the big screen.

The question is, for which part is the Oscar winning director, Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech), considering Jackman for. So far it’s unclear whether he’ll be cast as Jean Valjean, the protagonist, or Javert, the antagonist. Both roles are great but being that Valjean is the escaped convict who is chased for quite sometime by Javert, I’m going to say Jackman is up for Valjean… maybe that’s just my wishful thinking.

Wolverine fans, have no fear! As you all know, after director Darren Aronofsky left the project, The Wolverine has been on the hunt for a new director. Therefore, Jackman now has an unexpected gap in his schedule so he figured he’ll just fill it with one hell of a role that could very well nab him a couple nominations.

I think this is a great opportunity for Jackman. Personally, I believe he does one hell of a job in his period films compared to his modern material such as his upcoming film Real Steel and his beloved character Wolverine. While playing a mutant “with claws” is no doubt crazy fun, films such as The Prestige and Australia present Hugh Jackman in a different light–a light that shines with pure talent.

Question: Do you think Jackman will be a better Valjean or a better Javert?
