Six Epic Character Posters for ‘Rise of the Guardians’

Last month, Marvel’s The Avengers broke almost every record in the book and became the third highest grossing movie of all time. So what happens when you replace Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, The Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye with everyone’s favorite childhood fantasy characters? You get Rise of the Guardians, based on ‘The Guardians of Childhood’ series of children’s books by William Joyce.

They see you when you’re sleeping

DreamWorks Animation’s Rise of the Guardians features Santa (Alec Baldwin), the Easter Bunny (Hugh Jackman), the Tooth Fairy (Isla Fisher), Jack Frost (Chris Pine), and the Sandman (Tom Kenney). When an evil spirit known as Pitch (Jude Law) lays down the gauntlet to take over the world, the immortal Guardians must join forces for the first time to protect the hopes, beliefs and imagination of children all over the world.

We’ve seen this kind of story before in The Santa Clause 2 and 3, but unfortunately, it didn’t work for audiences. I think Rise of the Guardians will be better for two reasons: 1) An A-List cast and 2) you can do so much more with an animated movie than you can with a live action movie.

The men with the plan

Peter Ramsey makes his big screen directorial debut with Rise of the Guardians (he previously directed the made-for-TV movie Monsters vs Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space). William Joyce wrote the script along with screenwriter David Lindsay-Abaire (Inkheart).

Rise of the Guardians lands in theaters just in time for the holiday season on November 21, 2012.

Those posters are awesome! The trailer is great too, needless to say I’m fairly excited to see this film. It’s a nice change of events from the usual Christmas tales we are used to. The tattooed Santa is epic indeed, however, I dig the Easter Bunny.

I’m excited too! It’s awesome that William Joyce was able to take characters you’ve been familiar with since childhood and tweak them just enough so that as an adult, you have a new interest in them.

Is it sad that I had no clue who the Sandman was till viewing this trailer several months ago? Was he popular in America or is it an overseas character that never really caught on here?

I’ve known about the Sandman since I was a little kid. He sneaks into your room at night and puts magical sand in your eyes so you have good dreams. That’s why you wake up in the morning with the crusty bits in the corner of your eyes.
