The multi-talented Zooey Deschanel has been cast in Richard Curtis’s latest project, About Time. The film will tell the story of Tim, a time traveler who tries to use his powers for good. Actor Domhnall Gleeson, best known for his work as Bill Weasley in the Harry Potter movies, will play the lead and Deschanel will be his love interest.
Deschanel is accomplished in both music and theater. She’s known for her Indie band, “She and Him,” also featuring M. Ward, and roles in The New Guy (as Nora), Elf (as Jovie), and Yes Man (as Allsion). Her most recent televison endeavor in the Fox sitcom New Girl got her a nomination for a Golden Globe Best Actress Award. In About Time, she will be able to show off both her acting and her singing — there’s at least one song her character will have to sing.
It’s predicted that About Time will be a combination of romance, science fiction, and comedy. Director Richard Curtis typically directs and/or screenwrites for romantic comedies such as Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994), Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001) and Love Actually (2003). However, he’s open to working in other genres. The latest addition to his resume includes being the screenwriter for Steven Spielberg’s War Horse. He’s also dabbled in science fiction, writing for the 1991 British television show Bernard and the Genie and, more recently, for an episode of Doctor Who. With Curtis’s well-rounded background in writing and producing and the talent and the good looks of Deschanel and Gleeson, it’s a safe bet to predict that About Time will be a timeless hit.
