Are you a fan of Ridley Scott’s Alien franchise? Are you planning on going to see Prometheus when it hits theaters this Friday, June 8th? Would you like to see the film for free? Then 20th Century Fox and Amazon have the deal for you. If you’re one of the first 5000 fans to pre-order Prometheus on Blu-ray or Blu-ray 3D from Amazon, you will receive a certificate through your email valid for one admission up to $10 to see the movie at participating theaters between June 8 and August 31, 2012.
Details
Unfortunately, as of right now there are no details on a release date or bonus features. It appears that the Blu-ray 3-D combo pack will include the 3-D Blu-ray, regular 2-D Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Copy. While the suggested retail price of that combo pack is $49.99, Amazon has it on sale for $34.99. The standard Blu-ray combo pack has everything listed above, except for the 3-D Blu-ray (Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital Copy). Suggested retail price for this pack is $39.99, but Amazon has it on sale for $27.99. A DVD version of the film is also available for pre-order for $20.99 ($29.99 regular price), but the free movie ticket offer DOES NOT apply to this disc. You can only get the movie voucher if you pre-order the 3-D Blu-ray or the standard Blu-ray.
Also on Amazon are first looks at possible Blu-ray covers for Prometheus. They aren’t 100% set in stone, so these may change over time.

What if?…
What do you think of this concept? Is it taking a big risk to have people pre-order a movie they haven’t even seen yet? I have no doubt that Ridley Scott’s Prometheus will be a success, but what if it isn’t? What if it bombs? Scott will have a lot of angry fans with Blu-rays that they don’t want, and that wouldn’t look very good for the studio. But on the flip side, it’s a very smart way to boost Blu-ray sales, and a smart way to get people to the movies. So if this concept works the way Fox wants it to, I think we might start seeing more of this in the future.
