Video of the Day: A Bad Lip Reading of ‘Twilight’

You may remember that I have a deep dislike for all things Twilight. The movies are complete crap, the books are even worse, and all the new “fan fiction” that has become so popular (like 50 Shades of Grey) is just ridiculous. But one thing I do love about the Twilight universe is how easy it is to make fun of nearly everything about it. From the fact that the vampires sparkle like the sequins on a bedazzled notebook, to the whole idea of Renesmee being the love of Jacob’s life (she’s a BABY guys, there’s all kinds of wrong with a teenager falling in love with an infant), Twilight gives us fans of actually good literature all kinds of punchlines. While I still have to deal with Twi-hards until this November 26th (when the last film, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 premieres), I can take comfort in the fact that it will all be over soon.

But until that fateful day, I will simply have to turn a blind eye to all the hype surrounding the end (and to all the talk about Kristen Stewart’s affair with Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders). Which brings us to the awesomely funny video of the day, which features Miss Stewart at her most awkward stage. While I have to admit that some of the acting has improved as the series progresses, nothing can change the complete crap that was splattered all over the beginning of the saga. But after watching this video, it will be a lot easier to enjoy Twilight if I should ever be forced into viewing the movie again (you know, in case any one wants to torture me). It is brought to us by Youtube group called Bad Lip Reading, which takes clips from politicians, music videos, interviews, and films only to turn them into pure comedy gold. It’s a simple procedure of taking out the normal sound and finding words that sort of fit the way the mouth moves, but it can turn out to be hilarious.

Exhibit A is this video, which turns Bella and Edward’s first attempts at flirting into ridiculous talks about slapping fishes and eating cake. What I find really funny is that, contrary to the name of BAD Lip Reading, the words actually sort of match up to the way Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson’s lips move. So it is completely plausible that this is what they actually meant to say in Twilight. It’s certainly more entertaining than the puppy love tripe that makes up the actual dialogue. So, without further ado – I give to you the gift of “Edward and Bella” – A Bad Lip Reading. I hope you laugh as hard as I did.
