The end is near. Today Summit Entertainment released the first trailer for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2. The trailer comes on the heels of rumors that Lionsgate, which acquired Summit Entertainment last year, has plans to reboot the entire franchise in the near future. More on that front a bit later. But today, Twi-hards are celebrating worldwide as Bella Swan, Edward Cullen and Jacob fight to protect little Renesmee from the Volturi.
“I Was Born to be a Vampire”
The trailer picks up where Breaking Dawn – Part 1 left off. Bella Swan has finally been granted her wish; the one-time human is now a blood-thirsty, red-eyed, immortal being with pale, diamond-encrusted skin. Gifted with super-speed and strength, Bella vows to protect her daughter from all harm.
Bella narrates the first seconds of the trailer, “After 18 years of being utterly ordinary I finally found that I could shine.” But her life as a newly-wed vampire comes to halt when the Volturi catches wind of Edward and Bella’s abominable act — procreating and giving life to their half-human, half-vampire daughter Renesmee, played by Mackenzie Foy.

Alice forewarns Bella and Edward that the Volturi are after them. Determined to protect Renesmee, the newly weds gather an army of vampires to fight along side them with the notion that if the Volturi see how many vampires are willing to fight for their family that maybe they’ll bend the rules a bit. Jacob and several other members of his clan stand along side Bella. After imprinting on Renesmee in Breaking Dawn – Part 1, Jacob has a loyal bond to the girl.
Award-winning director Bill Condon will take a second stab at Breaking Dawn. After leaving fans somewhat dismayed with the first half of the story, lets hope he’s able to redeem himself. Nothing like ending a franchise on a sour note. Many people either loved Part 1 or absolutely hated it. Personally, I enjoyed what Condon brought to the table. I thought the visuals were nicely done and the story moved along at a steady pace. Sure the film lacked in action, but it made up for that with character development.

Is ‘Twilight’ Getting a Reboot?
Rumors are flying left and right about whether or not Lionsgate and Summit have plans to reboot the franchise. Twilight put Summit Entertainment on the map, and with a strong following and stellar box office performance, from a financial stance it all makes sense. More money. But do we really need to reboot this franchise? No!
Bloody-Disgusting revealed that Lionsgate is already talking about rebooting the entire franchise, perhaps with new actors. The website is standing by their claim 100% despite recent denials from the studio:
They’ll deny it, right here, right now. We’ll get plenty of eggs in our face. Sites will burn us at the stake like a witch during the Salem trials. Still, the fact will remain: it’s true.
In fact, they’re already discussing it internally. It will happen.
Twilight will return. It will never leave. It is eternal. Prepare to weep for another decade.
As you can imagine, Lionsgate/Summit fired back, stating that they have no plans whatsoever to relaunch the franchise. Deadline received word from the production company’s “movie czar”, Rob Friedman, who had this to share:
“We are not remaking Twilight. We will happily support Stephanie Meyer if she decides to proceed in any way. But this will be the last one unless that should change.”
Basically, Stephenie Meyer has the final say when it comes to Twilight. In previous interviews she has stated that she wouldn’t mind a reboot, but with The Host hitting theaters next year, maybe she will continue working on that front and leave Twilight be. Anyways, that’s that. All we can do is cross our fingers in hope that this franchise ends on the proper note and never sees the light of day again.
Opinions?
