Thor 2: Ten On-Set Photos Reveal Sif & Thor in an Epic Battle

As filming continues in the UK, a slew of photos from the set of Thor: The Dark World hit the net today. This is our first look at Chris Hemsworth in full costume as Thor since The Avengers. Judging by the photos, the Australian native is back in full swing!

Alan Taylor Adds His Signature Touch

Prior to today we’ve seen production photos and some set design work but nothing this extensive. In a recent interview, Game of Thrones director Alan Taylor stated that his goal was to make Asgard feel more organic and tangible. Instead of Kenneth Branagh’s full blown CGI Asgard, as beautiful as it was, Taylor’s looking to ground this Asgard in a more realistic setting. It’ll no doubt provide a much different feel to Asgard, but that’s what I enjoyed about  the settings in Thor. Everything from Asgard, to Rainbow Bridge and Jotunheim felt so removed from Earth that you actually felt like you were in another world. Hopefully making Asgard “more organic” doesn’t means removing some of the fantastical elements that Branagh established.

Chris Hemsworth, Jaimie Alexander, and hundreds of extras flooded the UK set to bring Taylor’s organized mayhem to life. Alexander, who plays Sif, can be seen on horseback with a sword in hand, as Thor fights alongside her with his weapon of choice. The photos show an epic battle scene taking place, but expect nothing less of Taylor as battle scenes are his bread-and-butter. Perhaps he’ll be able to give us better choreographed fight scenes as well.

The battle pictured resembles the opening battle in Thor where “Thor and Friends” basically murdered The Frost Giants, but unlike that battle, Thor has help from Asgard. Looks like Marvel made another wise decision in choosing Taylor to helm Thor: The Dark World. Check out the photos below:
