Russell Crowe In Talks to Play Jor-El in ‘Superman: Man of Steel’

The news surrounding Zack Snyder’s Superman: Man of Steel died down after the announcement of Amy Adams playing Lois Lane, or maybe our heads have been so far up Nolan’s ass Dark Knight Rises that we haven’t had time to actually open our eyes and look around. However, the movie world was presented with some news that will for sure have The Man of Steel the subject of talk for the next couple of days.

This afternoon, Variety reported that Russell Crowe is currently in talks to play Jor-El, as in Superman’s biological Kryptonian Father!

Whether paying homage to Marlon Brando’s cameo in “Superman” or just wanting splashy marquee name, Christopher Nolan had all along been seeking an A-list thesp for Jor-El, Superman’s biological father, since agreeing to godfather the franchise reboot “Man of Steel” for Warner Bros. More from Variety:

He’s got his man, and it’s Russell Crowe.

Does it get any better than that? I’m excited for two reasons… maybe even three: First, I’m loving where this story is going. The involvement of Zod and Superman’s biological parents is amazing. Second, Russell Crowe is a great actor and to have him be part of this production only increases the star power. Third… no third, but I’m not even a fan of Superman and I’m still really intrigued with where this is going. Maybe it’s due to the fact that it’s a reboot to a reboot, you know because the first reboot, Superman Returns, sucked beyond reasoning. Sorry Bryan Singer, I’m a fan of your work, but it was as boring as a chocolate covered moon-pie.

Now with Jor-El cast, who does Snyder have in mind to play Lara, Superman’s biological mother? I certainly can’t wait to find out.
