What do you get when you combine one juiced-up Mark Wahlberg, a sexy Mila Kunis and one oddly familiar yet slightly creepy teddybear that sounds a lot like Peter Griffin from Family Guy? You get one of the summer’s most interesting comedies, Ted.
Seth Macfarlane’s latest effort Ted, which hits theaters in July, showcases the funny man’s writing and directing debut on the big screen. Casting the gorgeous Mila Kunis, Mark Wahlberg, Giovanni Ribisi, and his own voice as “Ted”, Macfarlane’s film seems to follow the same comedic formula as his acclaimed Family Guy.
In this comedy we’re introduced to John Bennett (Wahlberg) as a middle aged man living with his stuffed bear, Ted. John’s faithful yet vulgar stuffed friend from childhood seems to be holding him back from reaching his goals in life. John’s girlfriend Lori (Kunis) is equally as irritated by the bear, but John isn’t ready to give him up just yet… he still needs his best friend during the big bad thunder storms. As you can imagine, a 35 year-old man still holding on to his teddy could provide some complications when trying to move on with his personal life.
While Macfarlane is no one trick pony, it’s his gag jokes that keep the laughter coming, and in the trailer there is plenty to go around. From Family Guy, to Cleveland and American Dad, Macfarlane has mastered humor and comedic timing. Question is whether or not Ted will remind too many people of Brian from Family Guy, who’s easily the show’s best character. Of course, too much of a good thing could back fire. Personally, Ted reminds me a bit of the character Wilfred from the TV Show Wilfred with Elijah Wood. Also does this film need to be 1-2 hours long? It may work better as a short film. What are your opinions?
Sure to provide laugh out loud slap stick comedy, Ted shouldn’t go under your radar this summer. Directed by Seth Macfarlane, Ted hits theaters nationwide July 13th.
