The Seven Dwarfs for Relativity’s ‘Snow White’ Have Been Cast!
The battle rages on between the two Snow White films: Relativity Media’s The Brothers Grimm: Snow White, which now is in the process of getting a new title, and Universal Pictures’ Snow White and the Huntsman. If you haven’t been following the war between the two, I’ll go ahead and catch you up. Basically, as one moves the release date so does the other; it’s basically a brutal tug-of-war. Let’s not forget that both have stellar cast members. Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman stars Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron, and Chris Hemsworth, while Relativity’s Snow White stars Lily Collins, Juila Roberts, and Armie Hammer.
Today Relativity’s Snow White just released their cast list for the Seven Dwarfs. But first here’s some other casting bits besides the dwarfs: Mare Winningham (Brothers) will play Baker Margaret and Michael Lerner (Elf) will play Baro.
And now on to the Seven Dwarfs:
Mark Povinelli (Water for Elephants), Jordan Prentice (Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle), Danny Woodburn (Watchmen), Sebastian Saraceno (Bedtime Stories), Ronald Lee Clark (Epic Movie), Martin Klebba (Hancock) and Joey Gnoffo (Pirates of the Caribbean ).
No news as of yet as to which actor will play which dwarf. Here’s a description of the film from Relativity:
In Relativity’s Snow White, a spectacular reimagining of the classic fairy tale, an evil queen steals control of a kingdom, and an exiled princess enlists the help of seven resourceful rebels to win back her birthright in a spirited adventure comedy filled with jealousy, romance, and betrayal that will capture the imagination of audiences the world over.
Here’s the entire cast so far for Relativity’s Untitled Snow White film:
- Lily Collins- Snow White
- Armie Hammer- Prince
- Julia Roberts- Evil Queen
- Nathan Lane- Brighton, the Queen’s servant
- Mare Winningham- Baker Margaret
- Michael Lerner- Baro
- Listed Above- The Seven Dwarfs
Directed by Tarsem Singh, the film’s new release date is now March 16th, 2012.
What do you guys think about the cast list so far? Which film do you think will have a larger fan base?

It’s a Smurf Invasion! Check out the New Trailer for ‘The Smurfs’
Alright guys and gals, the new trailer for The Smurfs premiered this afternoon. It’s comprised of a lot of the same footage we’ve seen from the first trailer with new tidbits thrown here and there. As far as the voices go, Papa and Smurfette’s voice sound almost nothing like the original cartoon, but who’s complaining. For one thing this film is apparently not for the original cartoon lovers, instead it’s geared to entertain the newer generations who are not as familiar with the version we all know and love.
I’m still young, but I can remember waking up really early to watch The Smurfs. If anything it’ll be interesting to see how these Smurfs differ from the Smurfs of the olden days. Check out the new trailer below and let us know what you think.
Directed by Raja Gosnell, The Smurfs stars Niel Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, Hank Azaria, Jonathan Winters, Katy Perry, Alan Cumming, George Lopez, Paul Reubens, and Kenan Thompson. This film hits theaters July 29th, 2011.

Kathryn Bigelow’s Osama Bin Laden Film is a Go!
Hollywood has always been interested in telling the stories, fiction or non-fiction, about our military. And since 9/11 the focus has been on the war against terror. Documentaries, bio-pics, and feature films all remind us that while those days are past us, the war is still raging and we are still fighting.
Columbia Pictures just won the rights to distribute Hurt Locker’s director, Kathryne Bigelow’s film about Osama Bin Laden. The green lights been give by the studio for Bigelow to start pre-production of the film which aims to tell the story of the hunt and the killing of Bin Laden.
Reports didn’t start leaking about Bigelow’s Bin Laden film until after US special forces had eliminated the al-Quaida leader. With that being said the Oscar winning director and her screenwriting partner, Mark Boal were already working on the film before anything was ever released. Pretty interesting, huh?
Columbia Pictures had this to say: ”Bigelow and Boal have been developing the project since 2008 and plan to incorporate recent events into the film.”
Apparently, before the attack occurred the script was written to focus on a previous attempt to kill or capture Bin Laden. Now with what’s occurred, about 40 minutes of material has been added to the script.
Who better to bring this film to light than Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal? Bigelow’s Hurt Locker earned her the Oscar for Best Director over Avatar’s, James Cameron, which is a huge feat for any director, especially if you’re Cameron’s ex-wife.
Let’s not forget about Mark Boal, who is an investigative journalist in Iraq. In fact he used his own first hand experiences with a bomb squad in Iraq to help write the script for Hurt Locker. Looks as if this film has some great people behind it.
What do you guys think? How much does America need this film? And could this be another possible Oscar for the director?

‘X-men: First Class’ News: Vaughn’s Sequel Ideas, Posters, and Featurettes!
With the early success and rave reviews spinning off X-men: First Class, Matthew Vaughn and Bryan Singer have all ready set their eyes on the next sequel to the First Class franchise. X-men: First Class is said “to give The Dark Knight” a run for its money.” Every critic who’ve seen the movie has yet to give this film below 4 stars or below an 8 out of 10 rating. That must be pretty exciting for the Vaughn and Singer team; many thought this franchise was doomed after X-men Origins: Wolverine. Vaughn talked a little about exactly where in history this new film would take place, and the exact number of mutants being added to the roster for the second installment: Warning! Possible Spoilers
Hit Fox:
Here’s what Vaughn had to say about the starting point for the sequel to First Class:
Would Vaughn be willing to do this again with this cast and this world?
“Yeah, definitely. I really loved working with them, and with Michael [Fassbender] and James [McAvoy], the chemistry was really lovely,” Vaughn says. “I’ve got some ideas for the opening for the next film. I thought it would be fun to open with the Kennedy Assassination, and we reveal that the magic bullet was controlled by Magneto. That would explain the physics of it, and we see that he’s pissed off because Kennedy took all the credit for saving the world and mutants weren’t even mentioned. And we could go from there, and I’ve got some fun ideas about what other mutants to bring in. I don’t want to tempt fate, though. If the film’s a hit, of course I’d be interested. I really enjoyed making it.”
Not really confirming anything, Vaughn sits down with Movieweb and talks about which one mutant will join the team the next go round.
Movie Web:
“We will only have one more new character. I won’t say who he…I won’t say who he or she is! But we will only be bringing one more new character in. Because, I think, as Professor X is in a wheelchair, Magneto needs to have a nemesis he can fight with. Someone that will be his equal. I know who it is. It would be nice if I could say something, but I can’t, mate!”
Boy, does Vaughn know how to tease us with just enough info to get our juices flowing. I was thinking about this yesterday, I think the reason the X-men work so well, is because of what their fighting for. They’re fighting for a cause, and it’s a cause and a war many people are still fighting. If Vaughn has truly been able to capture these characters’ emotions and fears of being mutants all while giving us a stellar action film, then X-men: First Class could very well shock most on opening night.
Alright ladies and gents, I leave you with a couple new posters, a featurette of mini Charles Xavier and Mystique, and a couple of posters. Enjoy!
Directed by Matthew Vaughn and produced by Bryan Singer, X-men: First Class stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, January Jones, Kevin Bacon, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, Caleb Landry Jones, Lucas Till, Edi Gathegi, Jason Flemyng, Oliver Platt, Morgan Lily, and Zoe Kravitz. This film hits theaters June 3rd, 2011.

Little Mermaid Film In a Different Light – Dark, Twisted, & Raw
The horizon seems endless with these Disney/story-tell classics turning dark and mysterious. Now The Little Mermaid is going to jump aboard this ship. According to the latest reports, Sony is in charge of re-envisioning Hans Christen Andersen’s Little Mermaid, the tale we all know and love. This new film will be modeled after Carolyn Turgen’s novel titled, “Mermaid: A Twist on the Classic Tale”.
Variety reported that the same writer who penned Country Strong, Shana Feste, will now take a stab at adapting the story. Tobey Macguire and Jenno Topping are set to produce.
Thanks to Amazon, here’s a synopsis of the book:
“Two women pine for the affections of a prince: mermaid Lenia, who pulls Prince Christopher from the sea, and Margrethe, the princess of the rival kingdom, who witnesses the rescue from the convent where she hides from the war raging between their two kingdoms. Lenia, who falls instantly in love with the prince, sacrifices the sea, her voice, and her health to be with him on dry land. Meanwhile, Margrethe believes that marrying the prince would unite their kingdoms, but when she arrives to arrange it, she finds him already enraptured with Lenia. While he remains unaware that the girl he loves is also the mermaid who saved him, Margrethe recognizes her rival immediately and puts into motion a plan to send the ailing mermaid back to the sea and save her own ravaged kingdom.”
What happened to the colorful cheery days of the 80′s and 90′s. Is dark and morbid the new trend? Lets take a look. Tim Burton’s Alice and Wonderland and Catherine Hardwicke’s Red Ridding Hood kicked started this engine. Now lets take a look at upcoming films being released in 2012 and 2013: Snow White and the Huntsman, Snow White and the Seven, Tarzan, Peter Pan, and Maleficent. All of these films will be live action, while showing us a darker side to our beloved Disney tale characters
What do you guys think about all this? Does The Little Mermaid tale need to be retold from a different light?

Lenny Kravitz Joins ‘The Hunger Games’ As Fashion Stylist Cinna
As casting for Gary Ross’s cinematic adaptation of The Hunger Games wraps up, the last additions to the cast are being released. Most of the adult roles and all twelve pairs of tributes have all been cast. The only character we’re waiting on is Presidents Snow, who is the evil-spirited leader of a futuristic U.S.A.
With that being said, it was announced yesterday that rock Lenny Kravitz was the latest to join the roster. He will play Cinna–a fashion stylist who helps Katniss Everdeen with the goal of surviving the competition. It was rumored that Lenny Kravitz was to join the film, but those rumors have now come true.
Lenny seems to be crossing over into film lately. The last role he played was Nurse John in Precious–a compassionate nurse who saw Precious for who she really was. The role of Cinna just about fits Lenny to “t”. It will be interesting to see how he puts his own spin on the character. I can’t wait to see his outfits.
By the way, someone should tell the writers wearing orange in a survival situation is a dead giveaway. Unless you’re a Auburn, Clemson, or Tennessee fan, who the heck would wear orange? Just saying. Here’s a character description of Cinna from Lionsgate:
Cinna is Katniss Everdeen’s assigned fashion stylist for the highly ceremonial lead up to The 74th Annual Hunger Games. Though he’s a mild mannered first time stylist, the designs he creates, such as the “Girl On Fire” costume for the tributes’ live televised debut, are show-stopping. With odds being set, wagers being placed, and wealthy benefactors able to occasionally intervene in the games, a high public profile is tantamount to a huge advantage for any contestant entering the arena. The stunning and unique designs Cinna creates for Katniss define her public identity, and in an all too real way, could also contribute to her very survival.
Directed by Gary Ross, The Hunger Games hits theaters March 23rd, 2011.

Video of the Day: Elmo’s World – Behind the Scenes
Ever wonder what happens behind the scenes of Elmo’s World? Sure everything seems so happy, colorful, and chipper, but it’s not all crackers and juice people. We’ll at least not in Elmo’s world. People are a totally different when not on camera. This video was recommended to me by a friend. I couldn’t help but laugh when I first saw it, so I would like to share my laughter with you guys. Here’s your video of the day. Enjoy!

Everyone, there’s no need to panic… the Muppets are here! Today, Disney released the first trailer for The Muppets and it looks fantastic. The trailer is currently attached to Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, but it was released on the net just a couple hours ago. It also looks as if The Muppets are jumping on the twitter band wagon. Disney is promoting the film go under code name, Green With Envy, starring Amy Adams, Jason Segel, and Chris Cooper. So it appears to be a film-within-a-film. By the way you can tweet the Muppets by hash-tagging Green With Envy on twitter.
Not only does the starring cast look phenomenal, but so does the long list of cameos: Zach Galifianakis, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Emily Blunt, Ricky Gervais, Alan Arkin, Jack Black, Billy Crystal, and Dave Grohl. Don’t worry that’s not all of them. Screw all this nonsense about the end of the world because on November 23rd at 12:00 am The Muppets will take over!
Official Synopsis:
On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate.
Directed by James Bobin, The Muppets hit theaters November 23rd, 2011.

New Posters for ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2′ & ‘Real Steel’
Poster galore! Today Dreamworks released a poster for their robot boxing film, Reel Steal, and Warner Bros. Pictures released a brand spanking new poster for Harry Potter and the Deathly: Part 2. Not too excited for Real Steel, but Hugh Jackman is the star of that film, so who knows it may be worth a shot. And of course everyone has their eyes on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. The new poster is bad-ass. I mean it has Potter’s face on the front and he’s looking up as if some mythical being is descending from the skies. Great stuff. Check both of the posters out below, and let us know what you think.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
Directed by David Yates, Deathly Hallows: Part 2 stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Helena Bonham Carter, and Ralph Fiennes. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 will destroy the box office starting July 15th, 2011.
Real Steal
Official Synopsis:
A gritty, white-knuckle, action ride set in the near-future where the sport of boxing has gone high-tech, “Real Steel” stars Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring. Now nothing but a small-time promoter, Charlie earns just enough money piecing together low-end bots from scrap metal to get from one underground boxing venue to the next. When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Dakota Goyo) to build and train a championship contender. As the stakes in the brutal, no-holds-barred arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last shot at a comeback.
Directed by Shawn Levy, Real Steel stars Hugh Jackman, Dakota Goyo, Evangeline Lilly, and Kevin Durand. This film hits theaters October 7th, 2011.

Box Office Round Up: ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ Seize Shores Around the World
So exactly how much did Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides end up making at the box office this weekend? Answer: $346 million. Domestically the pirates weren’t able to flag down the numbers of its predecessors, but in terms of worldwide box office numbers the pirates’ flag is sailing high and proud.
Looks like the critics couldn’t even keep fans of this franchise from seeing the film. Argghh! Thanks to those loyal fans, this franchise is still floating, and it will now go down as having the fourth highest worldwide opening weekend of all time! However, domestically the numbers weren’t so surprising. The fourth installment pulled in less numbers than its past two predecessors. Domestically, At World’s End pulled in $114.7 million, while Dead Man’s Chest raked in $135.6 million. Keep in mind these numbers are without inflation.
Now the next booty to seize is becoming the biggest film of 2011. There’s not doubt that Captain Jack Sparrow won’t pass the hammer wielding Thor ($392 million worldwide) and the nitro cars of Fast Five ($506 million worldwide). The bigger question is how will the ship hold up against the big hitters of this coming weekend–Kung Fu Panda 2 and The Hangover 2? Pirates will take a hit, but with such a busy summer every film will take a huge hit after it’s opening weekend. It’s all a matter of how many blows will it take to bring a film to its knees. Smaller movies almost don’t even have a chance against these box office giants.
The women of Bridesmaids held on strong to their second position of the previous weekend with a second weekend total of $21 million. Last weekend’s leader, Thor, fell from his first place throne to third place with $15.5 million–a decrease of 55.3% from last weekend. Ouch! Fast Five fell one spot to fourth with $10.6 million. That’s a decrease of 48% for the big guys. And still holding it down in the top five at fifth place is Rio with $4.6 million.
Here’s the Domestic Weekend Box Office (May 20th-22nd) Top Ten: [Box Office Mojo]
- Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides $90.1 million
- Bridesmaids $21.05 million
- Thor $15.5 million
- Fast Five $10.6 million
- Rio $4.65 million
- Priest $4.6 million
- Jumping the Broom $3.7 million
- Something Borrowed $3.4 million
- Water for Elephants $2.15 million
- Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big Happy Family $990,000

Video of the Day: SNL Liqourville Sketch- Lady Gaga & Justin Timberlake
I just about died when I saw this on the SNL finale last night. By the way if you missed this show, you really need to find it on Hulu. A lot of people who tuned in said the show was the best SNL has done in years. Forget that Lady Gaga’s in it–who was surprisingly phenomenal–Justin Timberlake should be a regular on the show. Ladies and Gents here’s your video of the day:

The Second TV Spot for ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2′ Has Arrived!
Hello my fellow readers. Today is so beautiful, the Cannes Festival is going on–which I am not at (Reel Movie Nation has yet to reach the success of the other big movie sites, but hey we’ve only been on the net for 4 months… we’re getting there), and it’s summer time and that means most of us are hitting the theaters at least once a week.
Today’s been pretty slow in terms of movie news, but that’s how it usually is on the weekends. Plus everyone’s busy at Cannes. But I do have a treat for some of you, or a lot of you. A new Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 TV spot was released today. Once again, nothing really new included. Just a bunch of shots we’ve already seen. But it’s nice to see something new released, right? I wonder if they’ll release a second trailer… I hope so. Check out the TV spot below and let me know what you think. By the way, why is Professor Snape so kick-ass? I vote for him and Bellatrix to have a love-child!
Directed by David Yates, Deathly Hallows: Part 2 stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Helena Bonham Carter, and Ralph Fiennes. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 will destroy the box office starting July 15th, 2011.

Two New ‘X-Men: First Class’ TV Spots: The X-men Are Heating Up!
In total I believe 20th Century Fox has released at least 11 TV spots for X-men: First Class, not including the two I’m about to post. Either Fox has utter confidence that this will succeed, thus trying to catch the eye of more people, or it will be a total flop. By the way there’s already evidence that this film is a total success.
Yesterday, there was an early screening and a lot of professional online critics were invited. Afterwards they post their initial thoughts. Some said that what Matthew Vaughn did for First class is what J.J. Abrams did for Star-Trek. Another person said that the film was more in line with the tone of Christopher Nolan’s Batman franchise. I’ve yet to read a bad review. I will post snip-its of their reviews once they start appearing online the 25th.
On to the spots. There’s a lot going on in these spots. One is focused on the relationship of Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik Lensherr (Michael Fassbender). All though it’s in Japanese you can still make out what’s going on. At one point there’s a lot of screaming going on by Charles Xavier.
The second spot is basically an action packed fiasco. Missiles being blown up, Azazel teleporting, and Magneto making some powerful speeches to his fellow mutants. All great stuff here, people.
Directed by Matthew Vaughn and produced by Bryan Singer, X-men: First Class hits theaters June 3rd, 2011. Are you ready?

Video of the Day: Cat and Owl Playing
When I first read the title I didn’t really believe it. Even after the first 10 seconds I still thought the video was fake. Not until the darn owl landed and started played with the cat was I a believer. Question of the Day: If different species of animals can get along, then why can’t humans? I love food for thought. Here’s your video of the day:
Courtesy goes out to Jordi Amenós. The cat’s name is Fum, and the barn owl’s name is Gebra. Fum and Gebra… best buds forever!

‘Maleficent’ and ‘Moses’ Are Looking for Director Darren Aronofsky
Darren Aronofsky is his own man. This talented director is at a point in his career where he can now say “yes” and “no” to whatever projects come his way. He flexed this muscle recently when he turned down the chance to direct the next Wolverine film.
Studios are now looking for the director to bring some of their biggest characters in pop culture back to life. Two studios have their eyes on Aronofsky: Disney and Warner Bros. Pictures. Disney wants the Black Swan director to take on Maleficent, while Warner Bros. wants him for Moses.
Maleficent is the same story that was supposed to be directed by Tim Burton, however, he turned it down to direct his upcoming features: Dark Shadows and Frankenweenie–another Disney flick based off one of his own short films. Maleficent takes an “edgy, adult” look at the darker side of the beloved Sleeping Beauty. Angelina Jolie is attached to star in the film.
There’s not a lot going on with Moses–the story about the burning bush and the parting of the Red Sea. However, Aronofsky has expressed interest in a film about Noah and the Ark. Maybe directing this film will get his foot in the door. Whatever film he chooses to direct expect him to add his magic touch.

New Trailer: Conan O’Brien Will Tell All in His Documentary-’Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop’
The power of a documentary is huge. It takes us behind the scenes of what’s really going and opens our eyes to what we would’ve never known other wise. Conan O’Brien is ready to take his fans into the struggle of his life which was his exit from The Tonight Show. During that time fans were outrage and O’Brien was in the public eye more than he’d ever been in his entire career. We were all watching O’Brien’s next move. This event alone showed America how corrupt and broken television can really be.
Well now, with the help of director Rodman Flender, O’Brien wants to take us into that moment of his life with his documentary, Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop. The film opened at the SXSW Film Festival and received some pretty positive reviews. The trailer premiered over at Apple. You better believe you’ll see the funny Conan O’Brien, and someone we haven’t really seen before–a Conan O’Brien stripped, without the comedy.
Official Synopsis:
After a much-publicized departure from hosting NBC’s Tonight Show – and the severing of a 22-year relationship with the network – O’Brien hit the road with a 32-city music-and-comedy show to exercise his performing chops and exorcise a few demons. The “Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour” was O’Brien’s answer to a contractual stipulation that banned his appearance on television, radio and the Internet for six months following his last show. Filmmaker Rodman Flender’s resulting documentary, Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop, is an intimate portrait of an artist trained in improvisation, captured at the most improvisational time of his career. It offers a window into the private writers room and rehearsal halls as O’Brien’s “half-assed show” (his words) is almost instantly assembled and mounted to an adoring fan base. At times angry, mostly hilarious, O’Brien works out his feelings about the very-public separation with comedy and rockabilly music, engaging in bits with on-stage guests such as Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart and Jim Carrey, duetting with Jack White and sweating out manic Elvis Presley covers with his band and back-up singers. We see a comic who does not stop — performing, singing, pushing his staff and himself. Did Conan O’Brien hit the road to give something back to his loyal fans, or did he travel across the continent, stopping at cities large (New York, Las Vegas) and remote (Enoch, Alberta) to fill a void within himself?
Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop hits theaters June 24th.
