While many are still talking about this year’s biggest film, The Avengers, Sony Entertainment continues to reign in on comic book fans worldwide, pulling out all the bells and whistles — posters, featurettes, trailers, TV spots, fake Daily Bulge News, and instructional videos for how to make your own web-slingers — for Marc Webb’s untold reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man, starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and Rhys Ifans.
The latest from the film’s promotion team comes a featurette about the man behind the scales, Dr. Connors and his reptilian beast The Lizard. The clip features Webb and actor Rhys Ifans speaking about Dr. Connors’ psychological transformation throughout the film as he struggles to find the balance between science and fate. Ifans said that he doesn’t view Dr. Connors as a villain per say, but just a man who views world in a much different light, which Webb agrees with. Personally, if nothing else stands out about this film, I’m hoping that The Lizard will; he’s an interesting villain, with a complex character structure that movie goers should be able to latch on to.
Dr. Connors/The Lizard Featurette:
Not to mention, a brand-new, 4-minute long, never-before seen preview for The Amazing Spider-Man will air during tonight’s episode of American’s Got Talent. While all the promotion is needed, you can’t help but wonder if the producers are trying to combat the film’s potential poor legs at the box office. The agenda, of course with the heavy promo, will be to get as many people in the theaters on opening weekend. If the film underperforms, Spider-Man could see a drop of 30%-45% by its next weekend. Also keep in mind that the film only has 3 weeks before The Dark Knight Rises makes its move into theaters, so the race is on.
I thoroughly enjoyed the third trailer for the film, as it was attached to The Avengers. Visually, The Amazing Spider-Man looks amazing. The camera work may be the best thus far for a superhero film; in particularly, I’m speaking of the shot where The Lizard is chasing Spider-Man upside-down on top of the subway car. This is one movie that I would love to see in 3D, and appears to be that Webb shot the film with that in mind. Come July 3rd all will be revealed. Check out several new promotional posters below.
