Doctor Turk Promoted to Doctor Gravity in ‘Kick-Ass 2′

The Doctor is In

Donald Faison, AKA Doctor Turk from the television comedy Scrubs will trade in his medical degree for a physics degree in the upcoming Kick-Ass sequel. He will play Dr. Gravity, a physics professor who moonlights as a superhero and member of the “Justice Forever” league. Justice Forever is a gang of misfit superheroes who join Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl to fight the bad guys of the world. They all have delightfully ridiculous names such as “Battle-Guy” and “Night-Bitch.” In the comic there are at least 12 Justice Forever members who come and go. There’s no word yet on which ones will be in the movie (certainly not all 12), but I’m hoping Battle-Guy makes the cut because of his awesome name.

An Unusual Weapon

Keep your mind out of the gutter, guys.

So what does Doctor Gravity fight with? Why, the Gravity Pole of course! The Gravity Pole is an object suspiciously similar in appearance to a baseball bat. The good doctor claims it can either create zero gravity or gravity 20 times that of Earth’s. It’s quite easy to operate — if you hold it one way, everything’s lighter and if you flip it over the reverse happens.

Other Cast Members

Joining the original cast of  Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass), Chloe Moretz (Hit-Girl) and Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Red Mist) is John Leguizamo as Red Mist’s bodyguard, Javier. Leguizamo’s done work in a variety of genres — he was Burke in 1990′s action film Die Hard 2, Dodge in 2005′s comedy The Honeymooners, and Lorenzo in 2007′s romance Love in a Time of Cholera. He also does voice work, most notably  as Sid in the Ice Age series. His diverse acting background should fit in well with the quirkiness of Kick-Ass.

We can also expect a brief return of Nicolas Cage in a flashback of Big Daddy.

Kick-Ass 2 will be directed by Jeff Wadlow. Filming is scheduled to start in September and a 2013 release date is expected.
