‘Dark Knight Rises’ MTV Footage: Catwoman vs Bane vs Batman | Reel Movie Nation

“Let the Games Begin!”

One of the highlights, if not the highlight of last night’s 2012 MTV Movie Awards, was the appearance of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Christian Bale and Gary Oldman; these three talented men stood in front of stage decorated with a glass-encased Batman suit — it was as if the stage had been taken right out The Dark Knight Rises. After never ceasing whoops from the crowd, screaming “Gordon-Levitt! Gordon-Levitt we love you!” and a somewhat perturbed Bale, each had something to say about the amazing Nolan inspired franchise, giving way to a 2 minute montage of Batman’s greatest moments from both The Dark Knight and Batman Begins. Sprinkled about were shots of the epic bats, Batman’s never-ending line of vehicles and of course the villains.

I, along with many others, thought that was the clip we had all been waiting for, and if so MTV was about to have a lot of angry fans knocking at their door, but boy were we wrong. After that clip, the man himself, Christopher Nolan stepped out onto the stage, giving a wonderful speech thanking the fans for their dedication and support for the films, which he said without them none of this would’ve been possible. And then it rolled…

Selina Kyle at the Forefront

The clip starts out like all others — with Anne Hathaway’s Selina Kyle at the forefront. Kyle, appearing in all black is being interrogated by John Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) as he throws down a thick folder containing Kyle’s history of run-ins with the law. “A girl’s gotta eat”, she replies. The scene then cuts to Blake asking her, “Why would you run? You can’t run from us with a record like this.” And Kyle simply and hauntingly replies, “Maybe it’s not you I’m running from.”

“You should be as afraid of him as I am.”

The next minute of footage bit is nothing but pure glory. After a second trailer that left many fans wanting more action and less of Gotham’s destruction, Nolan delivers, giving the fans everything they asked for: criminal filled streets, all of the bat’s toys, chase scenes, shots of Bane and Batman going head-to-head, Selina Kyle and Batman working together. It appears that Nolan may have given Hathaway the best lines. I love the shot where she’s talking to Bane in what appears to be his layer and says, “Don’t be shy”. We can only hope Bane doesn’t turn Selina into Meow Mix, as he and a his crew of bandits walk towards her. But Kyle knows full well the power of Bane. At the end of the clip Blake asks her, “What do you know about him,” to which she replies, “That you should be as afraid of him as I am.”
