Bring an Umbrella: Six New Character and Theatrical Posters For ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

THERE’S A STORM COMING

Thanks to Yahoo Movies and Facebook, we have a first look at six new character posters for The Dark Knight Rises featuring Batman (Christian Bale), Catwoman / Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway), and the villain Bane (Tom Hardy).

If you ask me, these are some of the best character posters I’ve seen for the upcoming film. The dark eyes are a nice touch, and the inclimate weather really sets the tone of the The Dark Knight Rises as dark and ominous, and I can’t help thinking of Selina Kyle’s line in the trailer, “There’s a storm coming, Mr. Wayne.”

In my opinion, the rain posters are much better than the snow posters. I just like the dark feel of the first three better. The second three make me think, “How much bad weather can Gotham have in one movie?” Also the snow is not as menacing as the apocalyptic rainstorm in the first set of posters.

Also, yesterday Warner Bros. released the firey third and final theatrical poster for The Dark Knight Rises featuring the Dark Knight himself and a Gotham City in flames.

This one is a little less impressive. Don’t get me wrong. While this poster is pretty cool, and it mirrors the first one, it’s just not what I had in mind for the final Batman poster. I guess I was expecting something that didn’t look like it was made in Photoshop.

IN BANE WE TRUST?

In an interview with Tom Hardy, he explains what it was like working with one of his heroes, Gary Oldman. POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT!! Proceed with caution!

“I spent my entire experience with Gary [on Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy] staring at him and not returning any lines because I think he’s God. The second time [on The Dark Knight Rises] I was playing God, so I ignored him. Kicked him a bit, that kind of thing. Gary Oldman is one of my heroes, I did nothing but glean from him.”

I think it’s safe to say from this tidbit of information that we can expect some sort of fight scene between Bane and Commissioner Gordon. Could this be why the Commissioner is in a hospital bed in the first teaser trailer for the movie? And Hardy’s comparison of Bane to God gives us an idea of just how powerful a villain to expect in this epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

LET’S HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS

What do you think of the new posters? How do you think The Dark Knight Rises will compare to The Avengers or The Amazing Spider-Man? As always, tell us what you think in the comments below.

Eight years after Batman took the fall for Two Face’s crimes, a new terrorist leader, Bane, overwhelms Gotham’s finest, and the Dark Knight resurfaces to protect a city that has branded him an enemy. The Dark Knight Rises stars Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Marion Cotillard. The film flies into theaters and IMAX on July 20th.
