2nd ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ Trailer: New World + More Action

Today, Universal Pictures released a brand spankin new trailer for the highly anticipated action-fantasy film, Snow White and the Huntsman. Besides the classical story, several facets of the new trailer are sure to have curious bystanders standing in line opening weekend. Forget the fact that it’s a popular Disney story retold through the eyes of darkness; the visuals, action and actors are enough to get me on board.

The first trailer for Snow White and the Huntsman showcased an awful lot of Charlize Theron’s deliciously evil and sexy yet dangerous Queen Ravenna; we also received a glimpse at Chris Hemworth’s axe-weilding Huntsman and Kristen Stewart’s bold Snow White, who’s casting had many people groaning, even with the premiere of the first trailer.

This second trailer basically amps up everything from the world of Snow White and its mysterious creatures to the evilness of Queen Ravenna. When you think you’ve seen it all director Rupert Sanders throws in several awe inspiring moments and shots. The forest in both the darkness and the light and the creatures that each spawn are fanatically designed. And the action! I’m thoroughly impressed with both the visual concepts of Queen Ravenna and her transformations. And judging from the dialog in the trailer, screenwriters Evan Daugherty, John Lee Hancock and Hossein Amini could bring the film to new heights.

The trailer focuses heavily on Charlize Theron, but we also get a lot more of Kristen Stewart, whose performance should quiet Stewart-haters. I’ve been an avid supporter of Kristen Stewart and I’m not going to judge her from her portrayal of Bella Swan in the Twilight series, even though I’m not a fan of the films themselves. Bella Swan and this Snow White are two completely different characters. Bella is extremely passive while Sander’s Snow White is a go-getter ready to take on her enemies. In terms of her career it’s a smart move for Stewart, especially if she wants to show people that she can play  more that just “herself” on screen.

This morning, Charlize Theron sat down with Today and talked about the popularity of the story and her character:

“It was taking something iconic that everyone has an opinion of…and how do you turn that upside down? That’s how I felt about the character… I think these stories, thematically, bleed into a lot of stuff that’s very relevant.” – Charlize Theron.

Directed by Rupert Sanders, Snow White and the Huntsman hits theaters June 1, 2012.
