Undead Chick Flick ‘Vamps’ Coming Soon

Clueless director Amy Heckerling is working on a new project featuring two sexy girls living the good life in New York, going to clubs and getting tangled up in love. Oh yes, and they’re also vampires.

The vampire pair will be played by Krysten Ritter and Alicia Silverstone. Ritter and Silverstone are both well-versed in the world of romantic comedies. Ritter’s played in movies including Confessions of a Shopaholic  and 27 Dresses. She’s also played Lucy in the (now-cancelled) TV show Gilmore Girls. Silverstone most notably played Cher Horowitz in Clueless. In Vamps, they’ll portray friends who fall in love with two guys. Vampire hunters will be involved and the girls will have to make a choice that could jeopardize their immortality. Information on how all of this will play out is still scarce, but we’ll keep you updated as we learn more.

Neither these actresses nor director Heckorling has done any substantial work in the sci-fi genre, so it’s anyone’s guess as to how this’ll turn out. Of course, vampires have been the latest new thing (replacing zombies, which replaced pirates — any guesses on what’s next?) so this movie could just be playing into that craze. Ever since the Twilight Saga, vampires have started being portrayed more like regular everyday people and less like bloodthirsty monsters, which makes them easy to work into pretty much any genre. It’s hard to predict whether the bloodthirsty element will elevate this movie to something more than a forgettable chickflick or if it’ll fall flat as a cheap gimmick. The expected release date is October 2012 — just in time for Halloween.

Vamps will also star Sigourney Weaver, Richard Lewis, Wallace Shawn, and Kristen Johnston.
