Get ready for more of your favorite half-ass-naked jungle man, Tarzan. Apparently, over the past couple years Warner Bros. Pictures have been trying to get their story of Tarzan off the ground. Looks as if the studio is just now moving things along.
According to Deadline, Warner Bros. hired two writers, Adam Cozad (Archangel) and Craig Brewer (Black Snake Moan), to each come up with their own interpretation of the beloved jungle boy turned civilized man. Hiring two writers for one story isn’t unheard of in Hollywood, especially when 20 other versions of the same story already exist. This allows the studio to choose which story is the best in terms of character development and originality. Great for the studio, horrible for the writer whose story isn’t chosen.
The big question is how many Tarzan stories do we need? I thought Disney’s Tarzan did the job. What really made that film was the soundtrack and the animation. I’m sure Warner Bros. is looking for the story to be told in a completely different way, but even so, it’s Tarzan. There’s not too many other ways to tell the story. Sure you could darken it up a bit, make it a bit more depressing, add in some cool editing and cinematography. No matter how you dice it, it’s still Tarzan…
What do you guys think about this? Is another Tarzan film a good idea?
