The Avengers (May 4th)
In one of the most well known comic books of the forever-famous Marvel, The Avengers, the paper pages will transition into filmstrips in the summer for audiences to visually view on screen. Nick Fury and his international peacekeeping agency S.H.I.E.L.D. try to save the earth from Loki and the numerous members creating his army. Nick Fury’s team is made up of some of the greatest super heroes in the Marvel comics, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. Evidently one of the most anticipated films of the year, The Avengers is projected to be one of the most anticipated films of the year showing in the summer of 2012.
The Dark Knight Rises (July 20th)
In the brilliant films of the recent Batman series the first two made an impact at the box office with great success. Coming out in the summer, the third installment, The Dark Knight Rises, is sure to be another worthy addition to the already duo of greatness. Eight years after the incidents in The Dark Knight, a new villain comes to the infamous Gotham City to cause their own mayhem. The terrorist leader Bane and his fellow comrades unleash their chaos on the Batmanless Gotham. After taking blame for the events following up to Harvey Dent’s demise, the Dark Knight goes into hiding only to resurface yet again to save his beloved City from Bane. With of course the same crew of filmmakers and main actors along with the infamous villain role, The Dark Knight Rises will not leave viewers astray. In the summer month of July, be waiting to view this heavily anticipated film of 2012.
The Amazing Spider-Man (July 3rd)
Although there have been recent remakes of this timely classic, The Amazing Spider-Man depicts the untold story and a different side of one of comic books most cherished characters, Peter Parker. This film shows the story of Peter as the outcast high school kid that was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving his Uncle Ben and Aunt May to raise him. Going through the usual life realizations of a teenager, he tries to figure out who he is along with trying to cope with the challenges of love and relationship with his high school crush Gwen Stacy. After finding a mysterious briefcase by his father, Parker begins a quest to understand why his parents disappeared. His persistent endeavors eventually lead him to Oscorp and Dr. Curt Connors where Spiderman and Connor’s alter ego, The Lizard, collide. The Amazing Spider-Man is to be released July 3rd, 2012 so be ready.
Prometheus (June 8th)
In the realms of technological exploration, a group of scientists explore the darkest parts of the universe. Using a spacecraft deemed Prometheus the group investigates fragments of Alien DNA. In the depths of their research, the scientists come across an unknown “alien” species where they must fight for their lives in order to save the human race. Directed by the visionary Ridley Scott, Prometheus is sure to be an exciting ride full of beautiful computer generated special effects. Set to be showing on June 8th, 2012, this film is another reason to be excited for the summer.
Brave (June 22nd)
Princess Merida lives the typical life of royalty. Although lavishing in many ways, Merida does not like it. Determined to make her own path in life, she defies the traditional custom of archers having a bow and arrow shoot out for her hand in marriage. As an aspiring archer who is naturally skilled, she embarks on a journey to prove her bravery and courage, however, in the midst of her endeavors Merida is placed under a spell by an evil witch. With a time crisis, she desperately begins trying to use her wits to solve the problem and release her curse. From the brilliant minds of Disney and Pixar, Brave is sure to be a clever animated piece that will capture the audiences attention. Being released on June 22nd make note to be looking out for Brave to hit the theaters.
Men In Black III (May 25th)
In the infamous collections of Men In Black, the duo of Agent J (Will Smith) and Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) are back to stop another alien threat in Men In Black III. This time however, Agent J must travel back in time to meet a young Agent K in the early years of 1960. With the help of his younger partner, they try to stop an alien assassination on Agent K and ultimately changing the world forever. With the already well-known two previous Men In Black films, the third will be another addition to the already awesome collection. Be sure to catch Men In Black III when it hits the big screens on May 25th.
G.I. Joe: Retaliation (June 29th)
As the infamous world of G.I. Joe came to life in Hollywood’s recent years, the first Joe movie was an overall success. As the saga continues, the second feature to the G.I. Joe films is sure to have the same story. Coming out in the summer, G.I. Joe: Retaliation is another epic fight between the Joe’s force and the Cobra force. This time, however, when the Joes’ operation and lives are at stake, against the Cobra spy Zartan who has most of the Joes assassinated, they will have to stand up with the remaining and fight back to save what is right. Being released on June 29th, this second addition to the new G.I. Joe collection is sure to be an enjoying ride.
Snow White and the Huntsman (June 1st)
With the clichéd stories of Snow White that have been known and cherished since before our generation’s birth, a new breed of this fairy tale will be hitting theaters this summer. Rupert Sanders, the director, brings to life a twist in these infamous stories with his version, Snow White and the Huntsman. Disregarding many of the usual content found in the traditional versions of the fairy tale, Sander’s version tells the story of the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth), who is ordered to take Snow White (Kristen Stewart) into the woods to kill her. Rather than doing his inhumane duty of destroying this girl’s life, through a change of events the Huntsman ends up becoming the girl’s protector, as well as her mentor, in the epic quest to overcome the ruthless evil Queen (Charlize Theron). Coming to theaters June 1st, be sure to mark this on the calendars, as you have never seen Snow White like this.
Ted (July 13th)
In the world of Family Guy, American Dad, and the Cleveland Show, the laughs and enjoyment seem to be endless. In a change of events, from television to film, the brilliant creator of these incredibly successful shows, Seth MacFarlane, will bring to life a movie by the name of Ted. Ted tells the story of a man and his beloved teddy bear who actually comes to life due to a childhood wish. Staring the wonderful Mila Kunis as Lori and the superb Mark Wahlberg as John, and the hilarious Seth MacFarlane as the voice of Ted. If even vaguely similar to the Family Guy series, this film will be a comedic masterpiece. Being released in the summer on July 13th make sure to be ready when this film hits the theaters.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (June 22nd)
When the imagery of Abraham Lincoln is put it test, one usually thinks of him being “Honest Abe,” tall, sophisticated, family oriented, intelligent, political, anything but a vampire hunter. In the summer of 2012, this will all change as the successful Russian director, Timur Bekmambetov, collaborates with Tim Burton, producer, to transition the story of “Honest Abe” into a horror thriller full of fantasy and darkness. During his presidency as the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln discovers that vampires are planning to take over America. Strongly opposing the vampires, Lincoln makes it his mission to eliminate them and end their evil plot. Being released on June 22nd, watch for this never before seen dark version of Abraham Lincoln to come to life in a theater near you.
