Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’ Trailer: It’s All About the Revenge

Blood splattered cotton, dramatic camera angels, and a trailer that kicks off with Johnny Cash’s “Ain’t No Grave” and segues into a James Brown classic… all this could only mean one thing — a Quentin Tarantino film! Last night the first trailer Tarantino’s highly anticipated western slave-revenge film, Django Unchained, hit the web, reminding us all how far away Christmas truly is… “We’re halfway there… I can make it.”

“Kill White Folks and They Pay You for it… What’s Not to Like?”

Tarantino seems to be taking his usual antics to a whole nother level. With the smooth talking, deal breaking Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz), a recently freed slave seeking revenge for his kidnapped/missing wife, Django (Jamie Foxx) and the evil plantation owner whom the two men must rescue Django’s wife from, Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio) Tarantino once again delivers hungry audiences and fans with a slew of great characters. All whom are driven by rage, revenge and the urge to kill. You may not like Tarantino’s style, but the man knows how to create some damn good stories.

“Django… the ‘D’ is Silent.”

Django is a freed slave who’s also looking to free his wife Broomhilda (Kerry Washington) from Calvin Candie. After marching in a chain-gang, Django meets Dr. King Schultz, the man who’s been on the search for him. Schultz offers to help Django free his wife, but he must help Schultz with a bounty — a set of brothers who are also part of the KKK. These brothers are the ones who sold Django’s wife to Candie. Django and Schultz set forth into South, causing havoc wherever needed.

Tarantino’s a master of creating visually stunning scenery. There’s a lot of contrasting shots pieced together in the trailer, from the dry deserts to the ice blue pool in which Django envisions Broomhilda. And I must say, I’m thrilled to see DiCaprio play the antagonist… it’s rare that the man ever really steps out of the good guy role to play such a character. I’m glad he took the challenge. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think

Directed by Quentin Tarantino and starring Christoph Waltz, Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson and Kerry Washington, Django Unchained hits theaters December 25, 2012 and January 18, 2013 in the UK.
