When Hollywood only sees green, slandering your name and wrecking relationships apparently means nothing. Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders is now known worldwide, not for his incredible direction, but instead for his affair with actress Kristen Stewart during the production of Disney’s beloved tale.
Since the news broke, Stewart’s been busy picking up the pieces of her relationship from the media’s brutal bashing. Sanders in the meantime has received several directing offers including the remake of Van Helsing which has Tom Cruise attached to star. The new comer’s name is now circling Sony’s latest project titled The Juliet.
Sander’s Second Hollywood Film
Deadline learned today that Sanders has decided to make the Sci-fi romance his next film. Penned by screenwriter Henry Bean, The Juliet is based off of Alfred Bester’s short story. The story takes place in a ”near futuristic science fiction landscape.” Bester’s responsible for one of the greatest sci-fi stories in recent history — The Stars My Destination. He also received the Hugo award for The Demolished Man.
We know close to nothing regarding how much Rupert and Bean plan to add and/or remove from the short story, but from the title and its genre, one can assume that the story will take inspiration from William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Rupert will have his hands filled as The Juliet‘s been described as “Bonnie and Clyde in space.”
Sanders is probably out of the race for the Van Helsing reboot, as he’ll only have five months to film before he’ll have to start pre-production for The Juliet.
Rupert is a talented director, and I was impressed with his work in Snow and the Huntsman. Not only is his vision great but it’s also well executed. Everything from The Mirror to Queen Ravenna’s costumes flourished with creativity. I’m excited to see what he’ll do with The Juliet.
