Wreck-it Ralph – An Unlikely Hero

As the fall season begins, the studios behind the year’s best animated films get geared up for battle. With an impressive opening, LAIKA Studio’s ParaNorman currently leads the pack, setting the bar high for its competition. Genndy Tartakovsky’s Hotel Transylvania and Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie will hit theaters this season, and the anticipation for both are pretty high. But there’s a new animation on the horizon, and judging by the first full length trailer, Wreck-it Ralph could very well throw its competitors for a whirl.

The Story

He’s large, he’s mean, and though he’s known for his destructive behavior, he’s looking to change the way his video game comrades view him. Directed by Rich Moore (Futurama, The Simpsons), Wreck-it Ralph’s (John C. Reilly) mission is to become a hero, but he’s often overshadowed by the real good guy, Fix-It Felix (Jack McBrayer). In his efforts to shape his future, Ralph game-hops through an arcade. Along the way he enters a one-person shooter game, where he meets a gritty Sergeant Calhoun (Jane Lynch), and falls into Sugar Rush, home to the adorable Vanellope von Schweetz (Sarah Silverman). His next move proves deadly as he unleashes a formidable enemy, putting everyone in danger. Wreck-it Ralph must save his pals and the entire arcade before it’s Game Over for all.

Disney’s Dark Horse

Wreck-it Ralph will find success simply because it’s original. A film about video game characters?! Kids will eat it up and video gamers will love it. Not to mention, screenwriters Phil Johnston and Jennifer Lee penned the script with a much wider audience in mind; the humor is kid appropriate without abandoning its older audiences.

By the looks of it, Disney’s ready to promote this film full force. In my opinion this is one of the best trailers for an animated film this year. The trailer keeps your attention, there’s a lot heart, and we’re introduced to an array of interesting characters. Plus what better song to back the trailer than Fun.’s ‘Some Nights’?! Brilliant. Check out the trailer below and let us know your thoughts in the comment box below. Will you see Wreck-it Ralph this November?

Directed by Rich Moore, Wreck-it Ralph stars John C. Reilly, Jack McBrayer, Sarah Silverman, Jane Lynch, Dennis Haysbert, Mindy Kaling, and Alan Tudyk. This film slams into theaters November 2nd, 2012.
