Perhaps you’re looking for a band of heroes that’s not a member of the DC and Marvel universe. If so, you’ll want to take a look at the newest trailer for Kevin Smith’s Phase 4 Films superhero production, Alter Egos.
Alter Egos features several familiar faces including Danny Masterson aka Hyde from That 70′s Show, and was written and directed by Jordan Galland. The film was chosen as the official selection at the Fantasia Film Festival this summer in Montreal.
Galland is not only a filmmaker, but he’s also a musician. He brought along pal Sean Lennon (as in John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s only son) to contribute the musical score.
In an interview with Variety, Lennon notes that Galland requested to music to be ”something that feels like Twin Peaks at times and feels like it’s harnessing the power of The Dark Knight at times.” Lennon also stars in the film as super hero, “Electric Death.”
A Kevin Smith Draw-In
Phase 4 Films is an independent studio known for distributing special interest content in North America. Several of their movies have gained awards in the film festival circuit.
Kevin Smith is a comic-book buff who owns Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash, a comic book and novelty store in New Jersey. Although he’s not credited in anyway for this film other than the distribution, slapping Kevin Smith’s name on something automatically draws in his Clerks cult following.
According to the film’s website, Alter Egos, “takes place in a world in which superheroes have recently lost all government funding and public support. It centers on an under-appreciated superhero who jeopardizes a dangerous mission with his own emotional crisis– his girlfriend is cheating on him with his alter ego.” In this trailer, a few scenes are shown in more detail since the release of the teaser trailer about nine months ago, but nothing too drastic.
Alter Egos also features Kris Lemche, Brooke Nevin, Joey Kern, Christine Evangelista, and John Ventimiglia, and will be in limited theaters this Friday, October 17th, and VOD on November 20th.
