Do you remember your 21st birthday? There’s a strange balance of exciting memories made alongside some blacked out parts that it might be better if everyone forgot about. My 21st was only a year ago and was celebrated with a lot of my high school buddies and a few college visitors in my hometown of Baltimore City. There was some dancing, some drinking, and unfortunately a camera that documented all the experiences we could have otherwise forgotten.
A Familiar Plot
Since it’s a movie, 21 and Over will be able to capture all of the unforeseen circumstances from Jeff Chang’s (Justin Chon, Twilight) soon to be epic 21st birthday extravaganza. Although he has a medical school interview in the morning, that doesn’t stop Chang’s two best friends (Skylar Astin, Pitch Perfect; Miles Teller, Footloose) from visiting him for his 21st birthday. Despite Chang’s father’s reprimanding of a night out on the town, the trio manage to escape to have one wild ride.
The Hangover Writers
This new film from writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore of The Hangover and The Change-Up seems to be one celebration movie-goers may never forget. But from the looks of this trailer, it seems like the film is an exact replica of The Hangover but takes place in college and maybe has some hints of Superbad. From the setup of a night of drinking, followed by an important event to attend the following morning, to a group of goofy guys, 21 and Over will certainly need to incorporate some unique elements to the story to make it stand out.
So will Jeff make it to his interview and get into med school? Will his friends leave with all the blame? There’s several questions that the film will need to answer, but the most important one is probably, “will it be funny”?
Out in theaters nationwide March 1, 2013, check out the first look at 21 and Over.
