Bryan Singer’s attempt at recreating Superman failed big time, so much so that Warner Bros. decided to go a different route; it’s a route many are unsure of — Is Henry Cavill the right person for the classic red and blue suit? After an unimpressive Sucker Punch and Watchmen’s poor performance at the box office, will director Zack Snyder be able to deliver? — the thread holding everything together, at least for the fans? Producer, Christopher Nolan. Many are praying The Dark Knight director’s involvement will be a sign for things to come. The stakes are extremely high. If this film flops, you better believe the general audience won’t pay up for yet another reboot.
‘Man of Steel’ at Comic-Con 2012
As Comic-Con 2012 continues to release more photos, footage, and posters of 2012′s and 2013′s biggest films, DC fans couldn’t wait to hear more about Zack Synders Man of Steel. For those unable to attend the festivities, don’t fret. On Saturday, Snyder and Cavill attended a panel at the San Diego Convention Center in California. Despite showing never-before-seen footage, which no one else will see, the two did reveal that the teaser trailer will be attached to The Dark Knight Rises!
“Superman is a big responsibility. But Superman needed to be introduced to a new generation. We finished shooting, so we’re just working on the movie now. The big challenge was if you can make people feel, what would you do if you were Superman. How would you feel?” Snyder said to the Hall H crowd, adding: “There’s a little movie that comes out next weekend and we have a teaser in front of that. So I thought maybe you should see that but then I thought maybe I’d show something else too.” – Source: IndieWire
In true Hollywood fashion, days before the trailer’s premiere, Warner Bros. released the first teaser poster for Man of Steel, which offers a close up at the suit’s intricate detail. There’s a lot that’s still hasn’t been answered and unfortunately, Snyder and Cavill weren’t offering up the goods. According to several reports, when asked if the main villain truly was General Zod, played by Michael Shannon, Snyder danced around the question. It’s always been rumored that Zod was the main villain, but nothing’s been confirmed by Snyder nor Warner Bros. Thanks to Movieline’s Pal Grace, costume illustrator Phillip Boutte explained more about the thought process behind the suit.
What’s Different About This Superman?
Despite the very dark tone, hinted at by the teaser poster, Snyder has plans of making Superman as realistic as he can without crossing the feel of the comics: “I just wanted to bring the modern Superman into the world. It’s for you guys who’ve been through thick and thin and for everyone else out there. I hope to bring a version that everyone can identify with.” – Source: IndieWire
And what about the soundtrack? Will Snyder and Hans Zimmer honor the iconic sound of John Williams? Simple answer: No. The two men have plans to detach this film from all others. Everything Singer created in the last film will be thrown out. Trekking all new ground is the mission here: ”When we started working on the movie, the thing we decided was the comic character existed. The movies are their own thing. We had to act as if no movies had been made. Hans [Zimmer] is going to do something different and it’s going to be awesome.” – Source: IndieWire
