“Fee-fi-fo-fum! I smell the blood of an Englishman? Be he ‘live, or be he dead, I’ll grind his bones to make my bread.”

Come one fairytale, come all. If you haven’t noticed lately, Hollywood seems to be relishing in the idea of turning classic children stories into epic, dark action films. First it was Red Riding Hood. Then came the rest: Snow White and the Huntsman, Mirror Mirror, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunter. And now we can all prepare ourselves for the story of Jack, the beanstalk and the giant. Yep, Hollywood can make a film out of anything now-a-days. Three Little Pigs anyone? Maybe Brett Ratner will take that one ;)

Today, we received our first look at ‘Jack the Giant Killer’ with the first official trailer and poster. The film, which stays pretty darn close to the source material, focuses on Jack and his attempt to save the princess and the kingdom after he connects his world with that of the giant’s. The bean stalk grows and the giant reeks havoc, throwing trees left and right and ensuing fear in all.

The film, looks interesting, if nothing else. I’ve always been a fan of Bryan Singer’s direction. There’s some beautiful establishing shots thrown throughout and some great action. Jack the Giant Killer looks like a fun ride. Plus, the guy who’s playing Jack, Nicholas Hoult, is an amazing actor. Many people were first introduced to Hoult when he played Beast in X-men: First Class.

Directed by Bryan Singer, Jack the Giant Killer hits theaters June 15, 2012.
