Warner Bros. announced yesterday that Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road) has been cast as villain, General Zod, in Zack Snyder’s Superman: Man of Steel. General Zod is the leader of several armies on Krypton. Does this mean we’ll get to see ‘The Man of Steel’ battle several men at once? Let’s hope that’s what this news means. Here’s what Snyder told the Huffington Post:
“Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don’t. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role.”
Can you we say thank goodness that the villain this go round is not Lex Luthor. Sure we all love the Luthor but it’s about time we see some of Superman’s other villains. I’m not big into the Superman comics, so General Zod will be of interest to me. That’s basically what the other movie goers are looking for as well. They don’t want to be reintroduced to the two men they’ve known for years. Nice job, Snyder!
Shannon will join Amy Adams (Lois Lane) , Henry Cavill (Clark Kent/Superman), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), and Kevin Costner (Jonathan Kent).
What do you guys think about this news? Is this perfect casting on Snyder’s part?
