As the world of Comic-Con has been exponentially rising on the silver screen, movies like The Hobbit and Django Unchained have stirred great attention. However, recently another film has been raising anticipation in this realm. The film I am speaking of is Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim. Directed by Del Toro, the feature is set to be released July of 2013. Although much has not been released on the film, the first teaser poster has been leaked to the public.
Jaegers on the Rise!
From Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures comes the sci-fi action adventure Pacific Rim. Based on the screenplay by Travis Beacham the film is set in the future of 2025, twelve years after a dimensional rift opened up in the middle of the Pacific Ocean allows monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, to rise from the waters and cause a global war. In order to combat for the invasion by the Kaiju, massive robots called Jaegers are created. Two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge control these giant robots simultaneously. As the human race defends themselves against the creatures, the war of a lifetime commences from the gap of the Pacific Ocean.
The Forces Behind ‘Pacific Rim’
Although the poster is rather subtle in it’s depiction of these giant robots and their pilots it is enough to see that the computer graphics for the film will be superb. With the visionary director Guillermo Del Toro, who is known for the Hell Boy series and the brilliant Oscar winning Pan’s Labyrinth, this film is sure to be a delightful surprise. Along with being a successful director, Del Toro is also accomplished as a great producer - having produced a number of animated films such as Megamind, Kung Fu Panda 2, Puss in Boots, and Rise of the Guardians. With the achievements that Del Toro has accomplished in the visionary side of film making he should surely influence the film’s animation department in a positive manner. Based off of the poster released for Pacific Rim I am highly anticipating these massive robots to be completely badass.
Since the film crew seems to be a good match, the cast should shape up nicely as well. Idris Elba will be playing Stacker Pentecost, Charlie Hunnam will be playing Raleigh Antrobus, Charlie Day will be starring as Newt Gotlieb, and Ron Perlman will also be appearing in the film. From the limited images shot on scene, the futuristic attire these soldiers are wearing seems to fit the atmosphere of the film nicely. The brief insight into the technological aspects of the film’s story is exciting as well. Personally I am fairly enthusiastic about the animation side of this film with the special effects and computer graphics. As Pacific Rim is set to be released a year from now be sure to continue to check as new information (hopefully a trailer) will be released with the coming months.
