If Edward Cullen wasn’t such a pansy vampire, perhaps the fact that his lady love cheated on him would mean some blood and guts on the screen instead of sparkles. Unfortunately for all of humanity, Kristen Stewart cheating on Robert Pattinson will simply mean hearing every Twi-hard in the world talking non-stop about it. I may have to strangle myself with a rope made out of Twilight books if I have to read one more E! News article on the subject – so there’s some violence for you (Seriously, one of their stories was titled Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson Fashion Rewind and it talked about the couple’s clothing choices in happier times – gag me with a spoon). It just goes to show how much I love you Reel Movie Nation readers that I actually compiled the explosion of news on the subject into one convenient read – if you don’t mind a few angry comments about how much I hate Twilight that is.
So here’s the scoop: it starts with US Weekly releasing photos of Kristen Stewart and her Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders in some compromising positions. The next thing we know, both parties are apologizing for the incident – confirming that they were doing some dirty deeds. Kristen Stewart has been dating Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson for a good long while (no one knows how long because the couple likes to remain private….at least until now). Rupert Sanders is married to Liberty Ross (who played Kristen Stewart’s mom in Snow White and the Huntsman), and he has two children, ages 5 and 7, with her. Adding to the disgusting cheating factor: Kristen Stewart is 22 and Rupert Sanders is 41. He could be her father and his wife played her mother. That’s just gross.
Kristen Stewart and her posse of PR people have gone into panic mode. According to the NY Daily News sources are saying, “It was a mistake and a complete lapse in judgment. She wasn’t having an affair with Rupert. It was just a fleeting moment that shouldn’t have happened. She never meant to hurt anyone. She’s a good person who just made a bad choice.” Yeah, yeah we get it – please feel sorry for K. Stew. Perhaps if she wasn’t such a terrible actress who is making more money than I will see in a lifetime I might be inclined to feel sympathy. She did at least publicly apologize to her boyfriend (because apologizing in front of the world is so much more personal and heartfelt…). Stewart says (via People magazine), “I’m deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I’ve caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I’m so sorry.” Hopefully she also sent the dude some flowers or something, because that’s kind of a lame apology.
As much as I hate Kristen Stewart, the person I’m most disgusted with is Rupert Sanders. He’s a married man and he cheated on his wife and kids with Bella Swann. He obviously sucks at life. His heartfelt public apology was also told to People magazine, stating, “I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family. My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together.” Guess what douche bag? Calling them “beautiful” and “heavenly” isn’t going to change the fact that you have completely screwed up their lives. Not only were you caught cheating, you were caught cheating with Kristen Stewart – which means that your family will never be able to escape your indiscretion. I really hope your wife kicks your cheating ass to the curb.
It certainly seems like Sander’s wife Liberty Ross will be smart about her idiot husband. While we haven’t heard anything from Robert Pattinson about the news, Ross did make a final tweet before deleting her Facebook and Twitter account. After the US Weekly photos were posted she said, “wow.” That’s not much to go on but the mere fact that she’s taking herself out off social media, which will be scrutinized by everyone, seems to show that the woman has some brains. I feel bad that her husband’s dirty laundry is going to be picked over by every trashy supermarket magazine, but hopefully her family is strong enough to get through the storm.
I suppose the real question on the minds of the fans of the Twilight franchise is how this will affect the upcoming movie. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 is set to premiere November 16th, and with it’s two romantic leads on the road to bad break-up song territory it could mean disaster. I hate to break it to you – it’s still going to be an absolutely terrible movie, but now we could have some exciting press before it opens. I mean – imagine this – Robert Pattinson gives a drunken interview where he starts singing that song Adam Sandler wrote in The Wedding Singer.
That’s certainly more entertaining than watching Bella and Edward try and keep their underage daughter away from Jacob (I still seriously hate the imprinting thing – no 17 year old boy should fall in love with an infant). My guess is that the cast will steer away from display’s like that. Since the goal is to have the film make money, the issue is how the love story of Bella and Edward will come across if Kristen and Rob aren’t a couple.
Since I already hate them both, I’m not the right person to comment on whether people will be angry enough not to go see the film. But luckily we have Twitter to help gage public opinion. E! News found this wonderful tweet, “mindlesss_Xo: OH HELLLLL NO. KRISTEN STEWART CHEATED ON MAH BEW WITH SOME DIRECTOR. SHE’S SUPPOSED TO BE GOOD TO ROBERT PATTINSON, his luscious self.” It simultaneously reminded me of how much I hate Twitter speak and answers the question of fan opinion. Apparently it doesn’t matter how many times Kristen Stewart cheats on Robert Pattinson – as long as he’s still hot people are going to see Twilight. In fact, via Twitter he’s gotten several offers for a K. Stew replacement.
So my dreams that this would bring down the Twilight Saga are probably not going to come true. Hopefully it will at least mean that it doesn’t beat out the last Harry Potter movie in midnight box office sales. If that happens, I may have to take matters into my own hands and exterminate the cheating whore. Because no cheater is going to outshine my Harry Potter. This may however effect a sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman, because I doubt the two will want to continue with the story when their own drama is out in the open. It’s likely that the studio will still want to make money, so it’s possible they will do a sequel without director Rupert Sanders – Stewart is the bigger box office draw. Or at least she was before this incident.
What do you guys think about Kristen Stewart cheating on Robert Pattinson? Do you believe her when she says it wasn’t an affair and just a one time thing? Will this effect your love/hatred of the Twilight movies?
