Iron Man 3 kicks off Marvel Entertainment’s highly anticipated “Phase 2.” The name simply implies the second phase of the production company’s future film projects, which consist of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Ant Man, Thor: The Dark World, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Who better to kick off this exciting new adventure than Robert Downey Jr. and the cast and crew that stapled Marvel Entertainment as one of Hollywood’s most successful production houses?
Combined, Iron Man and Iron Man 2 raked in an impressive worldwide gross of 1.2 billion. And now Marvel looks to tie up the trilogy with the third installment. Directed by Shane Black, the film started production earlier this summer. Black and the crew are now finished in Wilmington, NC, and have taken the production to Dania Beach, Florida, where the final scenes are being shot.
Iron Man’s Mark XLVII Armor
Thanks to Stark Industries, we’ll receive two very interesting and colorful high tech suits. The first one being Tony Stark’s new Mark XLVII armor, which was revealed at Comic Con this year. This is our first look at the suit on set. It’s said that in his mission to defeat Extremis-powered enemies and Mandarin, Stark creates 40 different versions of the suit. The gold version that we’ll see in Iron Man 3 is version number forty-seven.
As usual we’ve already got complaints from the fan boys, as some believe the yellow/gold will look too gaudy on film. Ridiculous, I know. More importantly, the rest of us are concerned about the suits new gadgets and features.
War Machine’s Patriotic Armor
Right beside the inverted gold and red suit stands James Rhodes’ (Don Cheadle) new Iron Patriot inspired suit for War Machine. We’re used to seeing War Machine in his classic all metal and colorless gear, but this is a new version of the shiny Mark II suit. This time around Black gave him a patriotic update, which nods towards The Iron Patriot. We’ll have to wait to see what Black has up his sleeves, but this may just be too coincidental to pass up.
