Upon the heels of Entertainment Weekly‘s latest issue, the first international for Steven Soderbergh’s Magic Mike was released in the UK today. If you’re having a bad day, all you’ll need to do is catch a glimpse of this trailer.
Starring Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello and Matthew McConaughey, Magic Mike tells the story of Mike and his journey as from a wild, smokey exotic dancer to a furniture maker and designer looking for a stable relationship. Along the way he discovers the young and curious brother of his love interest (Cody Horn), who goes by the name “The Kid” (Alex Pettyfer). Will Mike have give up the life of money, women and booze for the one he loves, or will fall back into the hands of thousands of screaming women?
Lapdancing, Skin and More Skin
The first US trailer promoted Magic Mike as a sort of romantic comedy, with bits of stripping peppered in. The new trailer only confirms my theory that international trailers are 90% of the time better than US trailers. In this one we receive more of Pettyfer’s character, who oddly enough plays a large part in the film but until today has taken the backseat to Tatum, McConaughey and Cody Horn. Pettyfer plays “The Kid” who throughout the film learns all the ins and outs of being a male entertainer. Mike takes him under his wing, transforming him from awkward (e.g., “Hey Mike, I think we should be best friends”) to a semi-nude lap dancing hunk.
The international trailer for Magic Mike promotes the film as what we all expected — a hott-n-steamy, skin-bearing, lap-dancing and super fun film. McConaughey seems to have a lot of fun as he plays Dallas, the main male entertainer at the strip club. Soderbergh’s pulled out all the stops: lights, hip thrusting and man-thongs. Ladies get ready for one wild night come June 29th, 2012.
