Lot’s of good stuff coming out this weekend people: Water for Elephants, African Cats, Bang Bang Club, and Madea’s Big Happy Family. Looks as if there’s something for everyone.

Water for Elephants

There’s no doubt that Water for Elephants, starring Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon, will come out on top as far as new releases, but the question is will the film be able to beat out Rio, the movie about the macaw from Minnesota? The film topped the box office last weekend, and set the bar as year’s biggest opening weekend to date. I really need to finish the book, before I head to the theaters Friday night.

Bang Bang Club

Unfortunately, Bang Bang Club has a limited release, which is dissapointing because the trailer looks really good.  Hopefully the film, which was first released at the Toronto International Film Festival, will get some great word of mouth; if not I’ll be seeing this one on DVD. The film stars Taylor Kitsch (X-men Origins: Wolverine) and Ryan Phillippe (Cruel Intentions).

Madea’s Big Happy Family

And then there’s Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big Happy Family. Tyler Perry has been a hit or a miss for me. I think he’s a talented guy, and I enjoyed For Colored Girls, but the Madea movies are getting a little ridiculous. Let’s not forget that Lionsgate extended their contract with Perry. This may be an OK film though. We’ll have to wait till Friday to find out.

Disney’s African Cats

Disney can do no wrong especailly with these documentaries. I was a huge fan of Planet Earth and Oceans, and now we get to see the big cats of Africa in action. It’ll be interesting to see how the studio handles the cinematography in this one as well.
