What happens if you cast comedy’s most talked about female actress, Melissa McCarthy, with the hilarious Jason Bateman? Judging by the latest trailer for Identity Thief, there’s a lot of laughter, destruction, flying objects and punches to the throat. It doesn’t sound fun in the least bit, but this new trailer shows exactly why these two are at the top of their game. And who thinks Bateman can take on Bilbo? Yeah, I didn’t think so either, but apparently, he can.
Don’t Mess with McCarthy
Following her success in Bridesmaids, Melissa McCarthy returns to the big screen after filming a season of her hit television show Mike & Molly. This time around you won’t see McCarthy in any bridesmaids gowns; instead, she’ll rock floral prints, bright-colored capris, and a hair-do from the ’80s. And Jason Bateman… yeah, he’s just Jason Bateman. Edit together several shots of Bateman from Juno, Horrible Bosses, The Change-Up, The Switch, and Hancock, to make one complete scene and we would all think it was from one film. But that’s what makes us love him so, right? He’s good at what he does.
In Identity Thief, Bateman plays Sandy Bigelow Patterson, whose unisex name makes him a target for, you guessed it, identity theft. Little does Bigelow know Diana (McCarthy) has maxed out his credit card during her extravagant vacation. He’ll either have to take a number behind all the thousand of people who’ve become victims of identity theft, or he can take matters into his own hands. After seeing he’s up against “Bilbo,” Sandy decides to track her down. Little does he know he’s in for a rude awakening.
From the director of Horrible Bosses and the producer of Ted comes Identity Thief. This film also stars Jon Favreau, John Cho (Star Trek), and Genesis Rodriguez (Casa de mi Padre). Identity Thief hits theaters February 8th, 2013.
