As the days tick by director Gary Ross and the crew  have been busy casting the adaption of Suzanne Collins’ hit novel, titled The Hunger Games. He’s put together a group of talented lead actors: Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta, and Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne. Now news has it that Ross is now starting to cast his supporting roles.

So far he’s cast two unknowns, Dayo Okeniyi and Amanda Stenberg, to play the roles of Thresh and Rue—two participants of the Hunger Games. Also, Variety reported yesterday that Elizabeth Banks will join the cast as Effie, who serves as some what of a caretaker, making sure that the contestants are ready, where they need to be, and dressed for the Hunger Games. Here’s more about her character from The Hunger Games page on Wikia:

Effie can be a bit of a airhead at times, totally oblivious to the sorrows and misfortunes that fall upon District 12…. She’s very strict about manners and being “proper”, as that is the Capitol’s way. She is a classic Capitol resident with impeccable manners, getting overly distressed at seeing her wig being tilted … on television, during the recaps. She is also a perfectionist and extremely punctual, complaining about how a five minute train delay would affect her tightly packed schedule.

The cast for Hunger Games is really shaping up. Sure there’s been some mixed opinions about Lawrence playing Katniss, but the girl is talented, and I’m sure the studios have a good idea as to what they’re getting into. Could anyone be more perfect as Effie? Banks’ personality fits right in with the role. Banks’ filmography includes The 40 Year Old Virgin, Spider-Man 1,2, & 3, and Seabiscut.

Are you guys happy with the casting so far?
