New Year’s Eve of 2010, I was sitting around looking at other movie websites when it hit me– if they can do it why can’t I? Being and avid fan of all things film, it was my mission from that day forward to create and nurture what is now Reel Movie Nation. After the first year, several mistakes, a hell of a lot of time and meeting lots of new people, I have to say that it was all worth it. As the website continues to expand to bigger and better things, all thank to our fans and visitors, we will make it our mission to bring you everything related to movies in only the best way we know how — pure honesty.
A native of Charleston, SC, I am currently a senior at East Carolina University double majoring in Theater and English. When I’m not getting ready for the stage or writing a ten page essay paper, I like to read biographies and historical fiction, write poetry, watch films, and jam out to Lady Gaga while riding down the highway.

I’ve been a fan of movies for as long as I can remember, and my parent’s had a lot to do with that. They didn’t pick movies that we’re specifically for kids, but instead chose to show me and my little sister Carolyn films that they themselves enjoyed. My love of movie trivia stems from my Dad, who loves to watch special features and pick up random facts about the production. If you watch a movie with me, a movie that I’ve seen a million times, be prepared to hear a constant stream of information. My taste in movies is varied and vast. I don’t really like foreign films or indie movies. But I love action, adventure, comedy, horror, romance, fantasy, historical, and pretty much everything in between. I’m a fan of dark comedy and all those superhero movies that Hollywood is so obsessed with right now. I never miss an awards show and I love midnight showings. I suppose you can already tell, but movies are definitely my passion.

When she’s not playing with her Australian Shepherd or ginger cats, Jess can often be found in the art building of East Carolina University with best friend and fellow RMN movie critic, Jon Valle. Concentrating in Animation and Interactive Design, Ms. Lewis is an artist meets businesswoman, double majoring in Economics, with a business minor. Described by her friends as a “fully loaded i-Pod shuffle, with built in speakers,” Jess is an avid theatre buff and music junkie. Jess is also known for her intense passion for the Baltimore Ravens, treehouses, and dark beer. If you want a movie critic with a raw, honest, sometimes sarcastic, never dull voice, then Jess Lewis is your girl.

When I’m not having to be a grown-up, I enjoy collecting comic books, toys, and anything superhero related. Go ahead and call me a superhero geek; I’m proud of it. I feel like a walking encyclopedia of superhero knowledge, movie trivia, and a useless factoids that I have no idea how or why I know. All I know is that one day it’s going to win me a lot of money on Jeopardy. I also enjoy reading, writing, painting, photography, and watching any sort of special features on DVDs. The thing I love about movies is they take me on journey and let me experience things that I won’t get to experience in real life. The mark of a good movie to me is when you forget you are watching actors on a screen, and you feel like you are there with the characters, sharing their emotions.

Favorite Actor(s): Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, Robert Downey Jr.

Favorite Director(s): Joss Whedon, Christopher Nolan, Tim Burton
Favorite Movie Soundtrack(s): Back to the Future, X-Men: First Class, The Incredibles
Guilty Pleasure: Like others, I enjoy bad movies that I can MST3K-ify
Katie is currently enrolled at East Carolina University, and is studying Fashion Merchandising. With a large movie collection that is continually growing, the only thing she has more of are books, she will never own an e-reader. In her free time she enjoys going to local shows and concerts with her friends. She loves watching old horror movies from the late 70s, and any movie from the 80s. Katie doesn’t watch very much television, but if she does its usually a crime drama like Law and Order, or Criminal Minds. Her biggest movie pet peeve are unresolved plotlines, and overacting.
